How to block unwanted faxes?

Hi all!

How do I stop various spambots from sending me faxes?

Is there a way to reduce fax spam, or even block all faxes except like 10 people I want faxes from?

Thanks!

There's usually a number in the bottom corner of some advertisements that you have to call so they eff off... More than 50% of our faxes were garbage at my first job, we never called. Best solution was pulling the plug, but then the machine keeps it in memory and prints it off once the plug gets put in... Down with fax machines?

dont those spam for services contain some sort of return contact info, for you to buy into their service? find it, call or fax them back and communicate that they need to fuck off and die

Well if your fax machine supports distinctive ring what you could do is call your phone company and add that feature to your fax line. Then have all the phone numbers that you expect to get faxes from added as distinctive rings. Then set your fax machine only to kick on when it gets a distinctive ring.

Replace with old PC with fax-modem and software. Print what you want and delete the rest. Use original scanner tied to same phone line to send only fax.

This is exactly what I want to do.

Place I am asking for wants service on phone company side. Plus, getting another computer there would be tough, office is pretty much a small closet.

TheGoodGuy: Fax spam may be illegal, but don't I have to register fax number in some database?

DaveSimmons: Yes, I think it needs to be on all the time.

An old $100 laptop would work fine for that too. no monthly fees like efax services.

Sorry, don't iknow much about faxes at all because all faxes are old school in my opinion. Just an idea that the OP has already shot down.

my dad had this problem at work and just unplugged it. if someone was going to fax him, he knew it was coming anyway so hed plug it in, get the fax, and unplug the machine.

How much does your fax line cost? For us, we switched to a service called metrofax.com and all of our faxes get sent to us via email, we hardly print anything anymore. We forward the faxes that are relevant, delete the ones that aren't, voila.
