ok, im getting frustrated by the constant file sharing my roommate is doing on bittorrent. he does not listen when my other roommate and i tell him to stop and when he uses bittorrent, it sucks up our bandwidth dry. only having a 384k adsl, it leaves us little(think 56k-ish) bandwidth. i've tried blocking the ports BT uses but he can change them so thats no good. is there a way to block ALL outgoing traffic or to block off bittorrent completely without hindering our internet surfing or instant messaging(AIM)? we're using a 4 port linksys router with pacbell adsl. any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. many thanks in advance.

You can try Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, or OpenBSD. Or go with a big system like Packeteer. But I think the best option might be to hook your room mate up with one of the BT clients that allows you to limit uploads. If he keeps uploads to 5-10K (total), this shouldn't affect browsing and whatnot much at all.

That's what I usually do anyways.
