I have about 600 mp files worth 2 gigs in my hard drive...
what would be the most efficient way of saving this mp3's?
before i would just pull them to a cd-r disc but i think as the collection keeps growing,
i was wondering if u guys have effective/economical ways of doing this...
txs.

Considering you can get CD-R's for nearly free (I just picked up 100 for four bucks after MIR) and each holds 700megs (slightly more than one-third of your current collection) I'd say that's your most economical means of storage. The only other option would be to set up a RAID rig to make sure you don't lose everything if a hard drive pukes. 5400 rpm drives can be had pretty cheaply.

It's all about the networked storage.

Right now I've got a pitiful little Intel P133 doing nothing but being my Athlon's backup rig. MP3s, important data, everything - all gets dumped on there. Plus the benefit is I can stream them off that to the upstairs machine by the stereo/TV.

If you don't have the hardware / time / motivation to set up a rig like that, you can just use a bunch of CD-Rs. Works just fine for backups, but don't expect to stream them.

I was doing the same thing with a P166 rig and had the hard drive blow up. Lost almost 40 gigs of MP3s. I'd really recommend either a hard copy or RAID so you don't have to feel my pain. It's a PITA to burn a big stack of discs when you have that much data to back up, but worth it...believe me. :(
