Over the last year I've been careful about my eating habits and have made it back down to my ideal weight (5'5" and between 112-118 lbs). :) Headed off with the husband for a 3 week trip to Italy on Thursday and trying to develop a strategy to enjoy the awesome food and wine (he's a cheesemaker and we're going with a bunch of "foodies") without gaining back more than a lb or three of what I've lost.

I don't tend to be a three meal a day person since I just don't burn off enough calories at my desk job, but since we're traveling with a group I am betting there'll be planned meal stops at least three times a day. :/ Hard to avoid nibbling when everything looks good.

Any suggestions on how to order so I'm not going overboard with my intake? I am a huge fan of bruschetta and I like most seafood and so was thinking of trying to stick with those types of foods over the heavy pastas, etc. At least most of the time.

Stay active, eat more slowly than usual, try to get more veggies than pasta at most or at least some meals. Honestly, have fun with it. Just keep in mind, the drinks add a lot of calories without making you full at all. Also, as is obvious, don't stuff yourself every meal. Sure, you can get away with it a couple of meals, but just try to behave :)

Thanks!! :) Just reading through common sense posted in somebody else's words helps. :)

every time i've been on a vacation like that i've ended up walking a ton. so even if you eat a lot you're moving so much that it doesn't matter.

Italy =/= overly sugar sauced and globs of cheese food like cliche Italian-American food is. Real Italian food focuses heavily on fresh ingredients prepared simply and singing for themselves. You should be fine.

Unless you are going to be there for more then a couple of weeks i would just enjoy the food they have their. Like GoodRevrnd said their food is pretty different from what we eat here.

Look at Giada's cooking show. A lot of fresh vegetables with olive oil and basil.
