I just recieved a new system - and I would like to benchmark it for my own use - and other considering a similar system. How shoudl I go about doing this? Is there a general list of benchmarks that I should use? Using benchmarks that favor a particular manufacturer or outdated software practices would not be beneficial.

Here is some of the more common ones

Aquamark 3

3dmark 05

3dmark 03

3dmark 05 patch

You need to download the patch to be able to upload your 3dmark05 results

These are the most common ones. Some games also some games have a timedemo built into them. Just remember don't get carried away with benchmarking. Enjoy your games as that is what you bought your PC for and you cant play a benchmark

You'll find more if you google "benchmarking" etc. Also check out Sisoft Sandra, the free version comes with diff benchies too.
