Blocking ads will surely reduce data use. If your device is rooted, I recommend Adaway. If not, Adblock.

What's your data cap and how much are you browsing forums over 4g that a few pictures here and there would have a significant impact?

Perhaps a forum browsing app like tapatalk would be a better solution.

Try Ghostery. Makes ad blocking easily. As for gifs eating more data than pics... perhaps you meant gifs being larger than jpgs. It's not always true. It used to be easy to block images for browsers, but not anymore.

You didn't say if you were on Android/IOS/WinPhone. If you are on IOS check your sync and backup settings. For some reason at least on the iPad, it seems to always do full iCloud device backups (6GB) seemingly weekly when I had mine turned on. It probably was Apple schedule for it. Full weekly backups, incremental otherwise. Regardless, that ate up a lot of upload speed which slowed down my Internet unless I had the router's QOS turned on.

Settings, data usage. You'll see two tabs, Cellular and WiFi. Scroll up to see the app usage. You can even set limits so that it outright notifies you.

If you're not streaming media, even 2GB takes a while to chew through. You need to check, as the people in thread have been saying, what is using your data. I visit forums all day on data and it doesn't use much.

2 gigs of data? Lol.

Yeah, funny.

However, for those of us that don't live in large metro areas, Verizon is pretty much the only choice and 2 gigs is what you get unless you are well lubed and like taking it.

I don't even have T-Mobile as an option here according to their website.

I use about 200 500Mb/month. I don't watch videos over cell, and don't frequent image sites. Phone is rooted, using Adaway, and have most Google services blocked via firewall. I usually update programs over wifi. My mail client checks three accounts, with two of them being 5 minute intervals, and the other every 30 minutes if I remember right.

How do I root the new version moto x. I want to use adaway. And how do I turn off google services? I'm looking at the list of how much data each app is taking and my browser is taking it all. Im just using the forums, so I guess it's the ads?

As far as I know there is no root method for the 2014 Verizon Moto X, at least as of a month ago when I was looking.

Welcome to Verizon.
