I'm just learning the ropes in backing up DVD's and converting VCD/SVCD to DVD. I have read tons of guides on www.dvdrhelp.com but none have specifically touched on how to actually burn the cd when you are finished with the converting/encoding. So what I did was I used the tmpgenc cut/merge feature to combine a few episodes of a television show I had downloaded. After encoding them to DVD mpeg-2, I burned the file onto a 4x Memorex DVD+R using my NEC2500A. I used Nero 6 and used the UDF format. For some reason, when I play the DVD with my Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 it only plays for about a minute before stopping and returning to the blue startup screen. I'm trying to determine what the problem is. Could it be my DVD player even though it says it plays DVD+R? All of my SVCD's work fine in it. The only other thing I could think of is if I UDF is not the right way to burn it. Also, would writing at 2.4x instead of 4x help possibly?

Did you create a VOB and IFOs with that MPEG2? Also, Do you place your IFO and VOBs in /VIDEO_TS of the DVDR?

No I didn't do any of that. Most of the guides I read seemed to indicate that it wasn't neccesary. From what I was able to decipher, they just encode the mpeg to mpeg-2 and then burn it as a DVD of some type in nero. So is that neccesary, and if so, what program do I do it with. I just want the straight footage no chapter selection or menus...

You need something to create the VOBs. IFOedit can do it. TMPENC's DVD Author can do it. There is a freeware app also called dvdauthor. Lots more if you look through DVDrhelp tools section. Also check the forums for some good info.

Once you create the VOBs, IFO and BUP files, drop them into a VIDEO_TS folder, and burn it using Nero. Dont use the lastest UDF version...nothing above 1.2, but that is a matter of opinion.

Once I go home I can give you specific directions in either IFOedit or TMPGENC DVD Author if you need it. PM me so I'll I don't forget to check this thread.
