How to backup itunes for format...

I'm about to format an xp box and install vista - is there a way to backup itunes so that I save my playlists and such?

You can also probably copy the whole iTunes Music folder in your profile and just point iTunes to it after rebuilding. Just remember to deauthorize the computer before you reformat since you only get about 5 authorizations for purchased music... or so I've heard.

I'm not at all worried about music purchased through itunes.. I'm much more concerned about my playlists..

File, Export Library
That will export all your music database into an XML file.
In that file will be a location marker, after you bring your computer back, change that location to wherever you back your music up to, using a simple find/replace in a text editor.
This may erase your play counts but it will keep everything else.
