How to setup automated weekly/ daily backup of a server running windows server 2012 with 500 GB HDD?
I currently have it on a disk mirroring (Raid 1) but am afraid that I will lose all data if a ransomware or virus hits as it gets mirrored as well

should i use
1)an external HDD with a builtin software , or
2)use windows server builtin backup software if there is any , or
3)Use a 3rd party software to setup automatic backup of image of OS / disk

or any other way, my knowledge of backup is limited so ELI5

First, good for posting. RAID is never to be considered a backup.

Second, depends on what your needs are. Some businesses require stringent backup routines, with off site of some kind.

Based on your post, I would pick up a few external hard drives. 1 for backing up critical data. 1 for backing up the OS. And 1 for a full system image.

If you have a more detailed system config, you will probably get a more specific answer.

Yeah, need more details.
Is this server mission critical?
Are you looking to use something like Azure backup (monthly fee, does differential backups), or, is this for home use?
Any State/Fed regulations to be aware of?
