I'm heading out to Minnesota from the E. Coast tomorrow morning. I'm all stuffed up right now (sick, etc), and I feel like the pressurized cabin ain't gon' help. Basically, I have a really runny nose and a headache that goes on/off. I usually dont do incredibly well in airplane cabins, but I've found that if I constantly chew gum and pop my ears from the beginning, I can usually deal. How can I have a comfortable plane ride?

Don't ask the cute young flight attendant to help you with your seatbelt.

i've had a cold on airplanes, its the worst. i thought my sinus was going to explode. i'd definitely reccommend sleeping tablets, take it literally an hour before you're on the plane so you have to keep yourself from passing out, and sleep like a baby the second you sit down.

A slightly higher than advised dose of Pseudofed along with Advil (to further decrease swelling of the sinus tissues and relieve pain) has always worked well for me. Take three or four of both an hour before your departure time.

God I hate flying. I have a long ass trip in March in coach. I'll probably get some fatass who either smells or can't fit in their chair, next to me.

Alright. What sleeping pills do you guys recommend? OTC, please..

And also, I doubt my parents will let me do that..

If you take the Pseudofed, you wont be sleeping. The main side effect is the fact that it is a stimulant. Take a laptop or gameboy to keep you busy or watch the in-flight movie.

I doubt your parents will stop you from taking Pseudofed and Advil. Just ask them to get some for you and take the boxes with you in your carry on. Pop the pills an hour before your flight.

Realize that both Advil and Pseudofed were once prescription drugs that were prescribed at doses three-five times higher than their over-the-counter recommended dosages. So taking three of each cannot result in an overdose of either drug.

Why not? It's not *that* long of a flight. Besides, you'll be up about, what, 4:30am to get to the flight on time? You'll need a nap!

I'm flying to Maui in September with my wife and 2 year old son. That should be an interesting flight...

To top it off I watched a program on Discovery Channel last night about Swiss Air flight 111...Why do I do this to myself? Now I'll probably be asking the airline if the plane I'm about to fly in has flamable insulation.

Sit in the section that is serviced by the male stewardess. Of course for some people that would cause mroe stiffness.

My son tends to end up in the hospital after plane rides because his allergies act up and the cabin pressure forces the infections deep into his sinuses. Tell your folks that, if they give you a hard time about taking OTC allergy meds. The Orlando hospital is a lot less fun than Disney World and even more expensive.

What he took on the way to my mother's funeral (too far to drive) was Sudafed, Benadryl, and Advil. Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) is a stimulant that also helps open nasal passages. Benadryl (diphendydramine) is a decongestant that as a side effect, can put you to sleep. Makes a good combination. Advil is advil. He got thru the flights okay.

Diphenhydramine, btw, is the "sleep" ingredient in Tylenol PM.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is often used on little kids to help them sleep on plane rides, as it not only helps their breathing but also can knock them out.

Good luck.
