How to avoid CDROM drive keeps spinning when not in use

Anyone know how to avoid CDROM drive keeps spinning and causing annoying sound when there's no reading process.(assume there's already a CD inside)

(Of cuz, the last option is to eject the CD)

shouldn't the question be how to keep it spinning? that stupid thing spinning down is the second most annoying thing in computers, after the "to hell with what you're doing, give me focus right now!" windows.

If you want it to spin down, just grab a plextor cdrom. that thing really likes to spin down in like 2 minutes if you don't access it.

Yeah I hate it when you open up my computer or something and the dam thing spins up just to give you the name of the disc in there. Jeez can't it remember!

Not sure if it would fix the problem but you can try turning "Auto Insertion Notice" or something like that off from the control panel.
