Hey all,

I'm using Win2k and have scheduled a daily backup of my important data to run at 4AM. Well recently I moved my computer back into my room and well with all the cooling and everything it's really quite loud... and I don't think I sleep as well with it going ;) And we can't have that! So what I've done it clocked back the backup time to 1AM. But now I want to create another scheduled task that will let me shutdown the computer at say 1:30 or so. What program/command can I use to do this? Thanx a lot! Hopefully this will be the last night I gotta put up with this ;) Hehe... Cheers all, I'm off to my noisy slumber!

Get Shutdown Launcher v4.3. Let's you shutdown windows and automatically run configured programs before Windows exits. Stuff like deleting temporary files, backing up directories, running Scandisk and/or Defrag, and ejecting CDs. Works great.

If you just want something that will shutdown your computer at specific time get Shutdown Auto v1.2 or if you want more options get Shutdown NOW!v4.12.

All are free and you can get them at hotfiles.com.

c:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows

I do not know whether this works in Win2K though

AMB, yeah... I was looking for a command line option preferably. There is a user.exe file in the C:\WINNT\system32\ directory, however I tried the ,exitwindows option and it didn't work. I might search more later but can't right now :*( Thanx for the attempt though... Cheers!

Win32 Shutdown
ok, there's a link to a freeware program that will do it. you'll just have to put an entry into scheduled tasks to run this program at whatever time. if you use:
"C:\Program Files\Win32 Shutdown\Shutdown.exe" /M:13 /T:0
that will close all programs, shutdown and power off.
The /T:0 gets rid of the otherwise automatic 15 second countdown, so unless having it countdown for 15 secs. while you're asleep, bothers you, it's unnecessary. anyway, it's all explained by running the program. self-tested, btw.
