How to ask neighbor to stop mowing my lawn

8 houses were we live have no fencing.

Bought our house last year. Neighbor throws out stick/marker from land survey right away. He keeps mowing my part of my lawn which is about 6-8 feet wide. It is back end of my property.

I'd like to ask him politely to stop doing that.

What is a good approach here? Speak to him with copy of my land survey and just ask him ?

Anyone in similar situation?

Thanks.

Just talk to him. If you have stakes/markers that shows where your property starts just request that he mow up to that point.

He shouldn't touched the stakes. Hopefully you didn't have to pay for the survey.

It can be a touchy situation. I have 2.5 acres of very wooded property. I'm on a curve in the road and my property is literally shaped like a piece of pie except I own a sliver of property that runs behind two other property owners. The neighbor next door and his adjacent neighbor.

The house next door was sold and the new owner was out cutting down trees on my property that runs behind his. I went out with a copy of the survey and showed him that he was actually cutting down my trees. He got a little peeved and hasn't spoken to me since but he did quit cutting down the trees.

Now, I've got plenty of trees and I only cared from the perspective that I thought it was important that he know where the property lines were. You need to let this neighbor know where the property lines are too.

I can be an asshole, (probably not a surprise to some here) and maybe I could have been more tactful but I got my point across and the fact that he leaves me alone I just consider to be a bonus.

Have someone else do it. But then where is it that cheap?

We have .8 acres and it cost about 40 to mow, trim and prune. Sometimes more if they do the flower beds. It's worth it to avoid about two hours of work and all the hassles associated with the work.

At $120+ a month I'll ride on my own dang mower and wave the weed eater a couple hours a week.

The local neighbor kid only wants $20 per lawn to mow. I wonder if he's any good

There's simpler fix. Day before he mows his lawn, do yours and 8 feet of his... he'll get the message

"Dude, (pause and hand over a cold beer) see this here bit of land you've been mowing? (at this point proceed to point out the area you are referring to) I own it. Please don't mow it anymore". (swig beer, change the topic to sports.)

Use some vegetation killer, and spell out "MY SIDE" with a arrow pointing on your land, and "YOUR SIDE" with a arrow pointing to his land...

Or just the section that you feels is yours. Mow it twice a week if that's what it takes to keep him from mowing it.

If he doesn't take the hint, put up a damned fence.

Talked to him. He plays a nice asshole. "maybe it is mine" "the easement is common" (it is mine), and so forth - bunch of bullshit.

Looks like wifey will take over now. The war is near.

If he moves the survey stakes and doest want to cooperate, dont get your wife involved. Get the town involved. I'd still show him a copy of the land survey and make him undertand the surveyors use town records in order to make the survey

let him keep mowing it and send him a letter saying "thanks for mowing my land" with attached survey copy so he cant claim he was taking care of it and then take it from you (laws regarding this vary by local ordinance)

I'd have a copy of the survey on hand in case he tries to use the land for anything, but if he's just mowing it I would just keep letting him do it. Less for you to mow. If he every tries to put a structure there or do anything else, that's when you show him it's your land.

AFAIK, removing a survey stake is a misdemeanor in every state. You'd have to be able to prove he moved it. Or, get the idiot to confess. In front of a witness (someone in authority) - "did you remove the survey stake because it was in the wrong location?" If yes, he just admitted to a misdemeanor.

Fights don't make for good neighbors though. Maybe simply go over a copy of your survey with him, along with the records for his property (usually can be found pretty easily.) I.e., I can see online the dimensions, location, etc., of every property in my county.

Get a metal detector, and find the corner. Once found, put a 4x4 by it and tell the neighbor you're gonna beat the shit out of him if he steps on your property.
