Job duties have doubled since the coworker left and I have taken on the slack because the duties needed to be done. I have a meeting with my boss tomorrow, what would the best way to ask for more compensation?

I have already put together and presented a list of new duties i am currently doing as well as what other people in my position are expected to do. Is there anything I can do to prepare an argument if they tell me "no" outright? Everyone I work with says i should be asking for a raise etc. Any help is appreciated.

Easiest is to compare your duties/tasks to something else... either an offer from another company, maybe an internal job posting that gives information on salary, etc. Make sure to have some basis and that you ask him confidently.

"gimme a raise or I walk, bitch!" ?

or something along the lines of "I've taken up every duty and responsibility that's come my way and proven myself to be capable of the additional weight that's been put on my shoulders, but I really feel like it's worth extra compensation if my portfolio is going to be continually expanding."

at this point in our economy, not getting laid off is in and of itself a pretty good compensation to having more work.

<~ laid off and attending graduate school because of it.
