My friend is trying to set up a web store but don't know how to advertise on the web? what are the ways other there?

I just learned from my friend that I could pay some money to say Yahoo.com to put some flashing Ads on their web site? Is this right? Is this the way its done. Paying money to company web sites to get our Ads on their site??

I'm guessing that full ads on Yahoo (as opposed to "sponsored sites") would cost a FORTUNE.

Start with creating the site in question and optimizing it for search engines (title and meta tags, keyword balance, link popularity, relavent content, etc.).

I think you have basically three choices:
1. Read, study, and research how to accomplish such things as generating more traffic and more ranking, and keeping it (see links provided in your other post, searchengineforums.com and searchenginewatch.com and google.com for your own searches).
2. Hire a good SEO (search engine optimizer).
Or 3. pay a fortune on advertising or PPC (pay per click).
