I was reading the threads that were posted, but all the 7V adjusting fan threads are about exhaus/intake fans. The biggest noise maker in my rig is my Thermaltake7 Volcano Heatsink/fan. I was wondering if there is anyway to tone down the noise on that. Thanks.

[edit] the noise is buggin me. any responses will be greatly appreciate. :D

i thought the volcano 7 had a temp sensor to slow down when it is cool enough?::checks other pc:: i'm pretty sure it does and it is very quiet for me with the side off. what are your cpu temps?
if you want, you can get the volcano 11 or 12 which lets you choose between the temp sensor or the a control switch

my temps are 32/32
How do I check to see if it has a temp sensor or not? There is only one cord coming out of it, which i connected to the "CPUFAN1" slot on my motherboard.
[edit] If you can contact me through aim: nabiscc or msn: nabiscc@hotmail.com it'd be easier so that i can get realtime conversation.

Yup. I bought a cheap couple dollars fan controller that takes one of the brackets in back. Works great to control my Silent Boost.

Is there anyother way to decrease the voltage so that it makes less noise?

You could buy a resistor and so some wire cutting and soldering.

The Zalman fans come with something similar to that, an extra attachment with a resistor used to lower the voltage.

If I replace the heatinsink/fan with the default heatsink/fan that comes with the intel chip, will that make a significant drop in noise?

It might. I've never heard the Volcano 7, but I have the retail HSF running on my 2.6C but it's not silent unless I 7v it (hooked to Coolermaster Musketeer). It's not as intrusive as I imagined a fan of this size would be, however.

I accidentally ran a Panaflo M1a @ 7v off the motherboard header. I believe I swapped the ground and rpm monitoring wires.

I don't think the stock P4 heatsink/fan fits and you can't remove the fan from the it as it's part of the plastic.
