its much like a burner. just plug it in, install the software, and go! the software should come with help file that you can use to help you get started.

Yeah . . . it really should be PnP. But, consider a duplicate HDD instead of a tape drive and the slow, cumbersome routine of a tape backup. When done you still do not have a ready to use computer . . . the tape restoration is as cumbersome and time consuming as the backup operation.

You can buy a second HDD exactly like the main one. Put it in a mobile rack and connect it as a slave or CS to the Master or CS, Turn both on, boot to a DriveCopy 4.0 diskette and it will make an exact copy in about 20 minutes. When done, turn off the rack (has a key switch) and you can remove the spare drive or leave it. You can lock it up in a safe place. It is cheaper than the combo of tape drive and tapes, and can be made ready to use quickly. Ideally, with a full tower, you can have both drives in mobile racks and control both with the rack switches and boot to either one. Set them on CS, and use ATA 66/100 cable and you don't worry about jumper settings.

I have this setup on all my computers. With spare inner trays, you can have several backup systems available - even with different operating systems.
