So I have windows xp installed on a hardrive with NTFS.
I want to add Win98 DOS in a FAT32 partition.

The problem is what steps do I need to take to add it to the winxp bootloader?

The way I usually do it, is make a small primary partition formated with fat32 which is
active and bootable, and then let the winxp install create the other ntfs partition, and setup the bootloader. At the end in the boot menu I have Windows XP and Win98, since i am using 98 version of command.com

In this case I have Windows XP already. I don't want to use an external bootloader, it must be possible to create a partition with fat32, sys it, and make the default xp bootloader recognize it?

but how?

Look like this is a job for TweakHome PC

The site has all the step-by-step instructions for dual-boot systems including installing a Win 9x after an NTFS OS.

Not entirely sure what you're asking. If you want to convert FAT32 to NTFS you can go to the command promt in Win XP (Start menu -> RUN -> Type "CMD" enter) Then type "Convert <drive> /fs:ntfs" to convert your drive.
