how to add a 3rd comp to network (wireless) ??

Here's my situation:

2 computers downstairs,
(a) one with a modem and network card
(b) one with a network card

these 2 are using ICS to share the modem.

I have a 3rd computer (c) upstairs that I would also like
on the LAN / internet. (it has a NIC already in it)

What would be my best solution? I've found some inexpensive
wireless 802.11b cards - but how can I use these without losing the
second computer (b) ? Would I be able to install the wireless network
cards in computers (b) and (c), and just setup the internet gateway on computer
(c) for computer (a)? (like ICS does with (b) )

to clarify, i'll draw a little picture:

192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.3
[ computer A ] [computer B] [ computer c ]
modem
NIC(ICS) ------cat5x------- NIC NIC (not used)
(wireless nic) (wireless nic)

can I simply add the wireless nics as shown, and set the gateway/dns for computer c
to be 192.168.0.1 ? and what settings would i use for the wireless nic in (b)? Seems like
B and C would have to have their own network, and I'd need a software bridge of some type
to share them all together.

I realize I could just put the wireless nic in compA, but then i can only share with compC, and not
B.

Any suggestions would be great.

The easiest suggestion would be to buy a 4 port wireless router and one wireless nic. I say router because I don't know if they make multiport access points, and you never know when you'll bump up to broadband.

Just plug in the two existing machines using cat5, and then use the wireless NIC in the third to hook up with the network. The router will work just as a switch/hub if you want it to.

A second solution, but IMHO, not as upgradeable, is to buy a wireless access point, plug it into your hub, and then stick a wireless NIC into your third machine. It works just as an extension of your existing network.

vi_edit first suggestion is the way to go.

You can find Cable/DSL Wireless Router for less then $100 (sale rebate etc.).

Example:
Cable/DSL Wireless Router for less then $100.

Going your way, the system will be expansion limited with double software routing, slightly slower, and buggy.

Of course going your way there will be Huge Saving of $20-$30.

I have two comps in my house and I have 56k, but I want to share the connection, but I don't feel like buying a router with a serial port for an external modem. How does this ICS work? Can someone give me details on what I would need? Both boxes are running Win2k.

I know but how would I go about it with dialup? Would it be like this:

Computer A with modem: Put in a NIC
Computer B: Put in NIC and connect to Computer A with crossover.

Then enable TCP/IP and ICS? <-----this is the only part I am a bit confused on. How would I go about this with dialup and on WIn2k. only Win98se is mentioned in the FAQ.

Thanks in advance

Got a junk box laying around - use FREESCO.

Very, very nice way to share a dial up connection. I used it at my work place for several months while I waited for broadband to be available.
