how to access win2k share without entering password?

I have a win2kserver machine with some file shares on it that I need to access from other comps on my lan. the machine has a tough password on it and it's a big hassle to enter it each time on the lan machines to login. is there any way to not have to enter the password on lan machines?

You could try mapping the shares. But anyone using your machine(when you are logged in) will then have access to those shares.

Hope that helps

Is this an actual Win2k Server or a Win2k Pro box? Are you trying to access them from another Win2k box or a Win9x box?

I assume your not running Active Directory so do this. Create a user on the Win2k Server box and give them permissions to the shares and files you need. Now create that same user (same password too) on the Win2k Pro box. Now when you try to access those shares it will automatically pass your username and password to the Win2k Server box and you don't need to put the passwords in. I believe this information can be found in the FAQ also.

how do I set the user permissions?

also:
I renamed the admin account on the server, and I'm using administrator with no password on the lan comps I need to access shares with, and I don't want to change the user on them, so is it ok to just create a user called "administrator" with no password on the server that is the account that just lets lan comps access the specific shares?

Here read FAQ the on sharing files. I'm not about to type it all over again. Also if I were you I would put a password on those machines if they are going to be accessing the server. Any account without a password on a server is just asking for trouble. Your basically giving them the keys to the front door.

And for the guy that said to enable the guest account. Well your not only giving them the keys your showing them where the door is too. Enabling the guest account is a big no no.

ok so I created an account on the win2kserver machine called "administrator", part of "Guests" and gave only "administrator" access to the shares. now when I try to access the shares from one of my win2kpro machines, it says "\\Server is not accessible. The user's password must be changed before logging on the first time."

wait no I have another problem:
when I access the shares, if I try to create or change anything, it says access denied, even though I checked "full access" in share permissions
