one of my coworkers gave me a computer to clean off and reinstall the system software on. it is a desktop and I personally have a laptop, and therefore no external monitor.

is there any way i can hook my laptop up to the desktop without a monitor and use my laptops monitor? or any way I can use the desktop, or access its HD, without a monitor?

I am guessing the chances are slim to none, closer to none, because theres no network card on the desktop.

any ideas?

my guess is ill need to acquire/borrow a monitor somehow.

Most laptops have VGA output for connection to an external monitor, but I've never seen one with VGA inputs.

Your best bet will be to find a monitor, kb, and mouse.

Always good to have that stuff around anyway.

Even with a network card in the box you wouldn't be able to do an OS reinstall via VNC or anything like that.

Way to open/question and then answer your own thread.

Yea, easiest way woiuld be to go to a Rent a Center and rent a monitor for a day. (or something)

yeah, ive got xp on my laptop, but the desktops getting 98se - so even if it had a network card, i doubt the network settings wouldnt have needed some tweaking to get it working.
i have a kb/mouse here, and i do have extra monitors at home, but im at school right now, and space is at a premium. i may just have to lug this thing to a lab here.

oh well, figured it couldnt hurt to ask

WTF?
Am I not allowed to ask a question unless i have no idea what the answer might be? I just wanted to ask the question, then acknowledge that I probably knew the answer and it was a long shot.
