How tight should my hsf be?

How tight is too tight? Do I run the risk of damaging my cpu? I have an Intel D915PBL mobo and P4 3.4 socket 775.
Thanks for your opinions.

Just install it as per the instructions and don't use too much thermal paste(TIM).

You will be able to twist it back and forth a bit after it is installed because the TIM acts as a lubricant.

I'm not familier with this HS. Generally the screws just bottom out and thats it. My XP-90 uses spring clips, the Zalmans use screws that just bottom out.

Link your instructions plz, as most of us won't go looking for them.

Can't find instructions on Coolermaster website. I'll try to describe best I can. There are 4 permanently attached threaded bolts on the top of the hsf that pass through the holes in the mobo and you put 4 nuts on from the bottom. So basically I guess how tight do you think I should make these nuts? Thanks for your patience and help.

Well I found the instructions 😀 Use only the provided screws, nuts and O-rings.

I went to Newegg, looked up your HS, clicked on manufacters site and watched the flash presentation. There is also a 19 page pdf that covers all board types.

The screws have shoulders on them and the nuts that are installed with a phillips screw driver. They appear to be set-up so they can't be over tightened. They got to make this stuff dumby proff for us 😉
