How the processor requests higher voltage than VID table for overclocking?

Hi,
I just checked Intel's document:
http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www...-datasheet.pdf
On paper 79, it shows the processor can at most request voltage 1.52V. I am just wondering how can the processor uses VID to request a higher voltage(probably in theory higher than 1.52V) for the overclocking purpose? Do you have any details? Maybe by writing to another MSR?

I think most motherboards get around this by just forcing a value in the BIOS and ignoring what the CPU is requesting. I don't know what API hooks or registers they use to do that in software, though.
