How the hell does GPA work ?

Apparently my GPA is 7.4

How does this translate into a % or a grade ? It's out of 10 apparently but my individual grades average to more than 74%.

Confused.

wow, unless you got 170% on all your tests I don't know how that worked out.

The highest GPA I've ever heard of was a 4.7 or so, someone taking a LOT of AP classes in high school.

I overheard a kid once talking about how nice it was that his GPA was a flat 5.0 :Q

He looked something like William Hung, and sounded like him, too, with a slightly deeper voice. Still nasal, though.

I heard some schools are on a 5.0 scale . If you graduate with a 4.0 your set.

That's out of 4, his is out of 10.

Magnum, I can honestly say I've never heard of a GPA scale out of 10... though the high school I attended my last two years used a GPA out of 5. Otherwise everywhere else its out of 4. Ask your advisor or guidance counselor for info on how they calculate it.

my highschool had a 10.0 gpa scale. and with APs, you could have up to 12 points in an AP class.

Depending on how your school system works, you very well could have a higher average than 74% in your classes.

In my highschool, a 97 or > would get you 10 points (12 for AP)
93-96 = 9
90-92 = 8
and so forth...

So in conclusion, I can't tell you why your gpa is 7.4, go talk w/ a teacher or something.

Just depends on the scale. On a 1-4 scale, that'd be a little bit less than a 3.0

 

[Achtung]

Doing a crude conversion to a 4-point scale, your GPA comes to 2.96... which is about 84% or so as an average score. Not counting honors/AP classes and all that.

My school goes on a 12 point scale.

I've got a 10.3 right now.

wow i've never heard of a 10 point scale before. Why would a school do this, when apparently 99.99999% of schools use 4.0/5.0 with AP?

why not just replace As, Bs, Cs with 90s, 80s, 70s, then average the numbers for your grade... very easy
very easy to understand.

A- = 8
B+ = 7
B = 6
B- = 5
C+ = 4
C = 3
C-=2
D = 1
F = 0

Just my guess though, I have no idea...seems to make sense.

This is how my school works....

A=4
B=3
C=2
D=1
F=1

So, lets say you have 3 classes and you got B's in all of them. You would have a 3.0 for your GPA.

I suppose that works.

These are my grades:

B

So that should average directly between a B+ and an A (no A- at my school).
