This can't be this difficult. I can cook pretty well IMO but I can't make a good cup of coffee.

This is the combo's I've tried:

-2 to 1. 2 cups of water and 1 even tablespoon of coffee. It tasted like ass, like coffee flavored water.
-6 cups of water to 4.5. 6 cups of water and 4.5 even tablespoons of coffee. It tasted slightly better, still tastes terrible.

I asked my mom and all she can tell me is "eye it". This is all with Folgers original coffee if that's of any help. I just want a good tasting cup of coffee...this shouldn't be that difficult. Thanks in advance!

Don't use Folgers... use real beans and grind them fresh if possible.
What type of coffee maker are you using? My old Mr. Coffee didn't heat the water nearly hot enough.... it would could out luke warm and would need to sit on the burner to get warm.... which means bad coffee. My new Krups is awesome... what a big difference!

How much do one of those bad boys cost? Mine's a Mr. Coffee too...maybe it's all it's fault :). I'm not a coffee conniseur by any means, so nothing fancy.

I buy those pre-packed coffe. Not in the jar but the one in a bag. I just use a bag and add water. But I mostly go to Starbucks.

I just put a ton of sugar & cream in my coffee... and I'm good to go.

And when I can, I put in Bailey's Irish Cream :D

A few things can make a big difference in your coffee quality.

1. Always use a clean coffee maker, and clean it fairly regularly

2. Use filtered or spring water

3. Always grind beans fresh for each pot, and brew right away. (coffee beans start losing their flavor very quickly after they are ground)

4. Let the brew cycle complete fully and let it sit on the burner for about 1-2 minutes when it's done.

Also, if you like stronger coffee, but don't like the bitterness, a little bit of salt on top of the grounds will help.

:)

Starbucks is great, but who can afford that every day? Well I guess alot of people can, but then again, alot of people have lots of credit card debt. Anyway, for us peasants, a clean coffee pot is essential. And clean out the reservoir every once in a while, crap starts forming in there even though it is just water. Also, keep your coffee grounds/beans in the fridge. I'm still trying to figure out how to avoid the hot dog tasting coffee syndrome, though.

I usually do one tablespoon of coffee grounds for every 2 cups of water. For example, if I fill the pot to the 8 mark, I do 4 tablespoons of grounds. Seems to work well enough for me, and I just get the Folgers crap or generic Kroger brand. Everyone keeps telling me I need to grind my own beans, but I really don't think I drink coffee regularly enough at home to buy a grinder, beans, etc...

Oh yeah, and I keep my coffee grounds in the freezer too. That seems to keep them much fresher than just keeping them in the pantry or something. I also use filtered water from the fridge.

I keep my coffee beans in ziploc bag, inside a jar, in the freezer. Coffee grounds will have more of a tendency to pick up scents like that too. A small container of baking soda in the fridge and freezer can help.

:)

Oh, and starbucks is mostly all over-roasted IMO.

I use 2 scoops of coffee per 8- oz of water.

You need good coffee to start with. whole bean coffees are great. Once a bean is grinded it starts to oxidize and lose falvor. keep your coffee in the freezer.

starbucks is good, dunkin donuts, check you local coffee roaster. Key is freshness.

even whole bean coffee loses flavor over time.

You say it like it's adds a lot of work. A good grinder will run you ~$15- $20, and will last for awhile. Grinding the beans themselves takes all of 5 seconds. As for buying beans instead of grounds, you just pick up beans instead of grounds at the store. :p

And waaaaay overpriced. I can get a whole bag of beans for the price of 3 Starbucks coffees.

Use:
1. 1.8 liters of good quality cold water.

2. 2.0 ounces of good quality coffee, I prefer Columbian, Kenya AA, Costa Ricans, Mocca Java, and Sumatra roasted to moderate darkness. Note, coffee very quickly goes bad, stale. If you are not running a diner, do not buy large quantities of it at one time.

3. Clean coffee pot and brew basket. I rinse mine out after every pot of coffee and wash them in the dishwasher every night.

4. A Mr Coffee brewer.

5. Pour out any brewed coffee that is over 2 hours old.
