how the hell do smugglers get caught?

like me and my buddy were just joking around about him coming to visit me and bringing me something illegal from home and i was just wondering like it seems so easy... like a lil nug of bud, wrapped in tinfoil, stuck up your ass or in your shoe or something... what are the odds of gettin snagged eh? like what is their criteria? i would obviously never do anything like this but i wonder how people get caught if they did? ist gotta be some bad ass luck eh?

thoughts anyone?

i'm guessing they look for patterns of travel.
and dogs, dogs can smell that little nug wrapped in foil.
 
The tinfoil would make you beep right? And they make you take your shoes off and they sent it through the x-ray machine.
 
Dog may sniff his ass. Smuggling in small quantities is pretty easy obviously. It's when you get greedy and start bringing in 15 pounds of cocaine that it gets tricky.
 
The further you stick it up your ass the further they will have to stick their hand. Some advice: don't do it.

actually the big wigs of that business never get caught doing that. They are usually taken in on other charges, such as tax evasion.

This is the most common tactic for drug mules. On more than one occasion they have exploded and killed the person.
 
They get caught because the people doing the checking are trained to pick out people who aren't acting quite right, which applies to most of the "amateur" small-time smugglers. That's how they get caught.

The ones smuggling big quantities are trained not to give themselves away, but with the stakes so high there aren't many people who are willing to take the chance.

And there are random checks also, which is a big deterrent to intelligent people who realize the penalties far outweigh the benefit.
 
There are people that surgically implant large quantities of drugs inside their body and still get caught.
