How the heck is Total cereal so packed w/ vitamins and minerals? Why don't all cereals do this???

I was reading the nutrition label on Total cereal w/ raisins and the stuff is chocked full of vitamins and minerals! Yikes! Why don't all cereal makers do this? Does it make cereal taste bad? Total isn't the sweetest, tastiest stuff.

Anyone else notice this?

Could you eat this stuff 3 times a day and stay healthy? I mean, it's got 100% of so many things...

NO WAY!! I don't believe you're asking this question; I have often wanted to ask the same thing...but didn't have the ballz!!! You da'man!

I agree; if it's got 100% of every damn thing I need to survive, then:

1) Could I eat nothing but Total for the next five years and live?
2) How do they get "it all" in there? Vitamin dusting powder or some crap like that?

Nice thread!

Eating Grape Nuts feels like having a handful of slightly flavorful pebbles in your mouth. The few times I have eaten them, I was concerned that they would mix with the digestive fluids in my stomach and form a mortar-like mixture, forever sealing the exit of my large intestine off from daylight, resulting in slow, internally-toxic death for me.

Total ownz j0o! <---did I spell that cool L33T-speak thing correctly? <-----trying to be kewl

Hmmmm.....so if one bowl is 100% of your daily intake of vitamins and minerals......couldn't you survive on one bowl of cereal per day?

Some of those protein bars are pretty packed too...you'd have to eat 3 (really really hard to do with the way some of them taste) to get 100%...

What about those damn slimfast shakes. They're listed at 33% of what they offer, so 3 of those + protein? hehe

i don't think so. fruits and vegetables probably have a lot of things that are good for us, but aren't vitimins or minerals. phytochemicals, and probably more that are undiscovered.

:( Yes, most of the time I am severely out of my age bracket around here. But, there are other "old people" here. Hell, there's even some ancient ones, right, Red? ;) While we might not know who Pink is dating this week, or be able to do l33t-speak, we bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to this forums. Blah, blah, blah, blah. ;)

well yea.. 100% of the basic vitamins. subtypes excluded. so not so good. also, does special k cost more? 100% vitamins in all your foods isn't good, some vitamins aren't good for u if u take too much.

You need stuff besides vitamins and minerals. It's pretty much just marketing hype for all the health nuts. If you eat decently, you'll get all your minerals without having to eat total.

On a side note, I was checking out their email list to try and get some answers (really bored), and check this out:

USDA Food and Nutrition email directory

Isn't it funny how each person has (Person) next to their name? I couldn't find any non-Persons :p

Yes, but the ultimate question will remain...

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

:p
