met a guy today, and he seemed to take pride in the name Dick, though his name is Richard. Makes me wonder is this just a convention that has grown into acceptance, or is there a logical answer?

haha so do you think its just because people are too lazy to say the full name, so they get lazy and call them by their first syllable? Kinda like Kimberly and Kim... but, as people pass that name along the consonants get messed up (like passing a word like tennis, around and getting penis).

Interesting...

anyone find any good reasons why some of these naming conventions started? Social Mores?
