how the heck do I use multi quote?

I've been on this forum for years but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use multi quote. I click on the multi quote icon and it lights up but then I click on "reply with quote" and I do not get multi quote.
 
You select multi-quote (it's to the right of the normal quote button), for each post that you want in your post, then when you press quote (or post reply), it will have ALL the selected posts in it.
