I read that you need to open the browser then hold down Ctrl then click "X" to close the window....it didn't work for me.

not always.

Maximize the window and then hold shift and close the window. That usually works.

We have a winner! :D

are you talking about the desktop's shortcut to IE?

If so, my properties doesn't have a MAXIMIZE under any of the tabs....

Yeah, mine doesn't have maximize if I right click on the desktop icon.

the steps work if I use the icon on the taskbar though....but my desktop IE still opens up minimized

Thank you very much db and everyone...I see that I was supposed to right click on the IE icon in Quick Launch.

i've always known about the maximize option but I never thought about using it for IE before. That said I don't always want it opened up maximized. I hate it when IE redoes the default non-maximized size though. bleh!

Most Windows programs (including IE) will open the same way that they were closed. If you make sure the last IE window was maximised before you close it, it'll forever open maximised (unless of course you close it in a non-maximised state).

If you still have trouble with getting it to save the new size, try the shift as Iron Woode suggested but use File -> Close not the close button.

Maybe it's supposed to work that way, but that doesn't mean it does. My IE windows have opening in a little square for the last week and I always close them maximized.

copy the desktop shortcut and create a new ie shortcut, then you can edit the properties like a normal shortcut. now delete the old ie icon from the desktop and you're good to go.
