Daughter says, "no internet," when I got home today.

Connected to router, no problem. Connected to DSL modem, no problem. Tried to connect to internet, no connection.

I went to call SBC, no dial tone. wtf All the other phones work.

I traced it back to the phone line buried in the wall that I installed 6 months ago.

How the heck can a phone line (about 12' long) buried in a wall go bad? All those heat cycles, hardy, har, har, har.

But, it worked for 6 months.

What kind of thermal load is there in a phone line to slowly over six months finally work its way through a solid core wire? What is in a phone line maybe 15 volts at some milli-amp of flow?

I can't say how many phone lines I've installed, maybe 30, but I've never had one go bad and I've never heard of anyone ever complain that one went bad that wasn't flexed.

Good point. If you've got the wire stapled to a wall or secured in anyway, that's putting pressure at one point on the cable. Just as good as kinking it.
