I've got all my music on X:\Music

I tunes in all it's infinite wisdom decided to create it's own fucking folder inside my music folder (X:\Music\iTunes) and I want it gone.

Inside iTunes, I changed the music folder to "C:\Documents and Settings\bigtoque\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Music"

now I exit itunes, delete X:\Music\iTunes, start iTunes again and the FUCKING FOLDER COMES BACK!

I don't care if apple wants to keep a few config files to use itunes, but keep the the hell out of my music folder!

How do you fix this?

Edit:

This is a really ghetto fix, that screws up any other program that wants to use the "My Music" folder...

I used TweakUI to change the location of the "My Music" folder from \My Documents\My Music" to "\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Fake My Music"

Now my actual music folder is left alone.

I'm interested in hearing about this too.

imo one of the biggest issues with iTunes is lack of decentralized support. There's no "iTunes Server" software available for home use. I want to keep all of my songs on my NAS so that each of my machines can share them, burn them to CD, and copy them to their iPods...why is that so hard to do? I hope their big announcements in Q4 include a whole-house audio system with an iTunes server or something like that, I want this headache to go away lol.

I don't think that there is anyway for iTunes to not create an iTunes folder there. You can tell it to not copy things there, so all that will be stored will be at least the library.xml file, and a few others (maybe the album art, im not sure), but to the best of my knowledge there is no way to keep it from making a /iTunes folder.

You can set in iTunes to have the Library in another place, and it should keep the library file (what song is in what playlist basically) in the My Documents folder.

I need to completely clean out my library... I copied my music folder from another partition and it created a double of basically every song :(
