I swear to God, every time I think I think I'm getting used to iTunes, I get to where I just wanna SCREAM!!!

This !@#$%#@ing POS program is so !$@#$!@ing illogical that I can't even BEGIN to digest who thought this thing up. I never thought I'd find myself ever saying that GAtes might be better at something than Jobs, but iTunes is RiiiiiiiiiiiDICKULOUS!!!!!!!!!

So anyway.........I've tried to select just an album.......no workee.

I've tried to select an artist.....no workee.

I've held Shift/and arrow-down, but it always overruns the artist and then WILL NOT back up just ONE song.....it just sticks!!

What do people do that have thousands of songs and manually manage their music??? Do they literally spend days on end ticking and un-ticking songs????

:confused::|

Man, don't I wish!!!

Unfortunately, the wife uses iTunes for all her stuff and I actually do use it to jailbreak my Touch. (Restoring, etc.)

I even clicked on the artist and figured I could just drag it over to the iPod............NOPE!!!!!!...........!$!!@#$!ing thing just tries to drag the one song......even thought I'm SPECIFICALLY clicking on the artist!!

(And, yes, you are correct! I'm pissed!!) Steve Jobs - DIAF!!!!!!!!!!! :|

Just what exactly is it you're trying to do? Just select the album field for what reason? If it's to edit it, "Get Info" after you highlight it.

I hate the iTunes style media players. You'll select the first song in an album, then when it reaches the end, rather than stopping, it starts playing the next album. WTF! I'll be listening to some nice relaxing music, it'll reach the end and start playing metal. Really ruins my mood.

I use Winamp on my PC and iTunes exclusively to manage my iPod.

No, that's actually easy. iTunes *DOES* respond normally in that regard. (I've had to do that to get album artwork for the whole album 'cuz evidently iTunes doesn't understand that either).

I'm simply trying to either SYNC or DRAG/DROP ***just*** one artist (hell, there's only 3 albums, so I'd be happy just to do it 3 times) over to the iPod (music managed manually) rather than having to tick/untick all the songs I want.

OK, well I think I've found a solution.........It ain't the best idea but........

I'm isolating albums.........holding Shift/arrow down and just keeping an album within the window so I don't overrun ('cuz I can't go back like in a regular Windows environment).

Then I drag the highlighted area (it'll sync everything I've highlighted whether it's "ticked" or not) over to the iPod.

And I don't have to wait to do this to the next album because it'll just 'QUE' the next batch.

Like I said.....it ain't the greatest, but I won't have to drive over to Jobs' house tonight & triangle-choke him 'til his nose bleeds.

:)

I really hate itunes as well. You pretty much are forced to use it in an Approved Fashion for Approved Commands, instead of actually telling it what YOU want to do.

Ya, like I said.....the logic just doesn't work. Maybe I've been stuck in Gates land too long, but.....man......I just get so frustrated when stuff doesn't work the way I've been forced to learn for so long. (I mean, don't get me wrong......Shift/arrow down ain't something I was born knowing, but COME ON.....at least be merciful enough to let me use THAT to freakin' select stuff).

(note: While Shift/arrow has to be spot on 'cuz you can't reverse either direction after that, Shift/Page up/down doesn't work AT ALL in iTunes, so forget that one)

Blood pressure's comin' down now. Jobs will live to see another day.

Funniest thing was that Googling ANY form of an answer for this proved futile!

I can only hope my half-ass solution will help even ONE person in the future if they're searching.

(exhale) :wine:

EDIT: I *should* say that I never *did* figure out a way to "multi-tick" songs except to either tick all or untick all. I simply highlighted/drug & dropped the albums I wanted. So if anybody ever figures it out, I'd certainly forward the info to my wife now that she'll be ticking/unticking for half the day tomorrow. :D

Wow, you suck at iTunes. I can think of three different ways to do this off the top of my head.

If it's organized by artist, and you can see all the artist's songs in one window view, click the first one, HOLD SHIFT DOWN, and then click the last song. This will select everything in between your two clicks, along with the two clicked songs. Same goes for selecting whole albums.
Right by the search bar, there are three view icons. The first is the classic view, the second is an "album view", and the third is the cover flow view. Using the "album view", click on either the Artist or Album field label (think of it like a spreadsheet, the Album/Artist text way at the top, ie, the name of the field) in order to sort it by either, then you can simply drag the album art or the "no album art" icon and it will drag all the songs tied to it. For example, say I wanted to add all of the songs off U2's War, I'd sort by album, scroll down to it, and drag it's album art.
I've got 209 U2 songs in my library; obviously using either of the two mentioned methods would be a pain in the ass. In either the classic or "album" view mode, you can click on a little eye icon in the bottom right corner, which will bring down three new columns at the very top of your library. If I click U2 in the Artist menu it just opened up, it will ONLY show me songs with U2 tagged as the artist, then you can just Ctrl+A and drag.

Obviously, none of the above methods will work very well at all if your shit isn't tagged properly.

EDIT: And if you're talking about using the little checkboxes by each song (like if you've got your iPod set up to "sync checked songs only") use the third method I described, then right click on your selection and do Check Selection or Uncheck Selection.

Just search for the song or album or artist and it will just display those. Or just put it in a playlist. Or you can create a smart playlist.

Either type the artist's name in the search box, click on any song and hit Ctrl-A, OR hit Ctrl-B to bring up the browser. If you can't use something as simple as this, then you = Text

Seriously, the OP is making this out to be much harder than it really is. Like mrSHEIK says, use the Album View or Search Box to easily narrow things down. And I pray all your music is tagged.

Also, I use a lot of smart playlists to keep stuff synced on my iPod. I have about 25gb of music and only 18gb total space on my iPod. So everytime I get new music, I'd have to manually sync stuff up. Well rather than do that, I just made a smart playlist where "date added" is within the last 90 days. This way I know I have the last 3 months of new music always synced to my iPod.

I use a smart list which makes sure songs rated 4 stars and up are always synced, as well as the "recently added" playlist. Other than that, I've set iTunes to sync only checked files.

i love how someone is indoctrinated to the "gates" way of doing things, then acts like it's his/her own way when they use a piece of software that calls for the "jobs" way and rages because it won't let him do things "how he wants". itunes is a pretty nice and powerful piece of software if you take the time to learn it, but most people dog it because it's not done by the "windows" frame of mind, regardless if this way actually works better.

edit: oh, and back off jobs. it'd suck to get beat up by a guy in a black mock turtle neck. he's FIERCE.
