How the Delta fan saved me from my stupidity

I bought myself a thermoengine with a delta fan on it and with the noise, thought my computer would be running a lot cooler. Well, after some time, it still ran at around 50C. I got pissed off that I had paid money and have to put up with the noise, only to get the same temps out of my processor. I decided to go back to the thermoengine's original fan and opened my case, dusted everything with a few huffs and puffs and removed the hsf from my motherboard.

I looked at my processor and noticed that the thermal paste was really not around the core. I looked back at the hsf and saw the thermal paste more on the sides than over the core. When I moved it in the light, I realized that I FORGOT TO REMOVE THE TAPE FROM THE THERMAL PAD!!! I pulled it off, thankful that the delta was strong enough to keep my Athlon cool even with the tape! I pulled the tape off and my Athlon is running at 40C!!! A full 10 degrees cooler! Man, my PC has been saved from my idiocy by the delta fan! Next time I get a hsf, I am making sure the tape is off!

Glad to hear that no harm was done due to your temporary lack of attention to detail. As for your sanity, let us know how it's going after listening to that little screamer for a month or two.... Do they have internet access at the funny farm?
