How tall are goblins?
Orcs?
Elves?
Maiar?

Where orcs "created?"

Were the orc lords and goblin lords taller?

In the movie, what sort of creature was the big tall creature that lead the orc party which kindnapped Pippin and Merry? orc? Goblin?

orcs are elves that were tortured and turned evil. They are the same height as elves. Same as humans. The big tall creature was an orc. Did you pay attention in the movie? cause I thought they explained that.

orcs were elves, they were ruined in the 1st age by the enemy and forced to serve,

they vary in height depending on what type of orc. there are fighters and slaves. the creatures that took pippin and merry were the uruk-hai, these were bred by Sauruman using orcs and men. this allows them to not be hindered by the sun. the maiar take whatever form they desire, they are basically heavenly creatures. the istari, are the same height as tall men

They are about as high as the movie portrays them I think. The ones that kidnap pippin and merry are Uruk Hai which are a hybrid of orc and human I believe and they are larger and stronger than normal orcs (as seen in the movie). They are still orcs though.

EDIT: Ooops I forgot my stupid mom-joke. I meant to say: "Why can't you just ask your mom to measure herself?"

Wasn't the big tall creature the ogre (or was it a troll)?

So, was the big one a Uruk Hai as were the rest?
He was so much larger and different looking, I thought he might be different.

Did the Orcs loose the quick reflexs of Elves?

When I say the big one, I mean the big one in the group that kidnapped Pippin and Merry. He had a bow and arrows.

The big one who got his head removed by strider at the end was just the leader of the group, but he was uruk hai like the rest of that big group he was with (they are all way larger and pimper than the regular orcs). The orcs, as a whole, are not as capable as elves. Even ignoring Legolas kicking all their asses an orc is a poor version of an elf at best.

Well Orcs are described as short/squat...height ranging from about 5'2" to 5'7" I'd say.
The Uruk-hai (the one's that Saruman bred in the movie) were taller though...maybe closer to 7 feet.
Elves are tall...6'2" and possibly higher
Maiar? Um..that ranges. Sauron and the Balrogs were Maiar but seduced by Melkor and turned evil and they now range quite a bit in their physical forms. Gandalf and Saruman are also supposedly Maiar...but it's just their spirits in the bodies of old men. Think of Maiar as more like spirits instead of being physical. If you are just referring to wizards...then just the height of Men I'd guess.

<< Where orcs "created?" >>

Early in the first age Melkor (the Dark Lord before Sauron) captured Elves and tortured and corrupted them. Then once they were corrupted/mutiliated they were just bred as a mockery of the Elves...which means they also don't die natural deaths like Elves. They are considered fierce warriors but of course they're no match for some warriors like the best Men and Elves...but in the great battles, Men and Elves also lost many people...not just Orcs. They are portrayed weaker than they really are in the movie. Don't get me wrong...Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, and Boromir can lay waste to dozens of them at a time but don't assume the average Man or Dwarf could do the same.

Goblin is basically another word for the Orcs....and what "orc lord" do you mean?

They are taller than Hobbits and shorter than Ents. :p (The Ents had better be in the next film, no more Tom Bombadil things being cut.)

alright just to be sure i just looked up "Goblins" in my Complete Guide to Middle-earth and all it says is "The Orcs."
and according to Encycolpedia of Arda...

<< Is there a difference between an 'Orc' and a 'Goblin'? The following quote from the foreword to The Hobbit sheds some light on this: "[The word 'Orc'] occurs in one or two places but is usually translated goblin (or hobgoblin for the larger kinds)." (Hence the statement above; 'especially the smaller kinds'). This entry concentrates on the goblins of the Grey and Misty Mountains simply because it is these Orcs that Tolkien most frequently refers to by the term 'goblin'.
The word 'goblin' is also used occasionally and indiscriminately in The Lord of the Rings; it never occurs in the The Silmarillion.
