How strong is the glass on the iPhone 4g???

So my pre-order is coming in anyday now. I ordered an invisible shield for the phone but I am actually considering whether I would need the "bumper" case along with it. How strong do you guys think the glass is?

I always keep the phone in my pocket separate from everything else so the only issue is whether I drop it. I've had a pretty good track record and luck so far *knock on wood*. The couple times I dropped my 3G it conveniently landed on my foot so the foot broke the phone's fall.

Thanks for any input guys!

I don't think anyone here could know the answer to this yet.

It sounds like the glass is a highly sophisticated synthesized glass similar to Corning's Gorilla Glass (in fact it sounds likely it is in fact Gorilla Glass). They claim it's as strong as synthetic sapphire, which, based on my experience with sapphire watch crystals, is all but unscratchable (though it can shatter given enough abuse). Personally I'm going to try using my iPhone 4 without a case, but there's no guarantee it won't break if it's abused enough.

Yah i saw the review on ifixit, however some people commented that its not accurate without the internals. I suppose I'll just use the invisible shield and skip the bumper for now. I really hope the glass iphone 4g is using is equivalent to gorilla glass cause that thing is amazing. I might even skip the invisible shield if that is in fact the case.

The degree to which people freak out about scratches on the back side of their phone continues to befuddle me. It has absolutely no impact on functionality.

Maybe people don't want to be surrounded by trashy stuff? You know same reason they wash their cars, get door dings fixed, and spray armorall on the tires....makes no diff getting A to B but people do it.

If the iPhone was the size of a car and widely considered to be a symbol of wealth, sure. But it's not. It sits in your pocket and bounces around with other things. It's meant to be used, and use comes with abuse. The important part is that the screen remains unscratched - who the heck cares if the side you don't look at is slightly scuffed?

This is as bad as people complaining about the molding seams in the G4 Cube.

You're asking the wrong person. I eat stuff in general but I do know people where everything has to be brand-new looking at all times. My wife is like that. She used to vacuum every day, yes every day to have nice lines in carpet...that was before hellions came then she eased up.
