How strong is a bobcat?

My brother wants to use my uncle's Bobcat to tear down an old shed we have in the yard. The shed is built with large 12 inch pilings in the ground. I think he'll rip off the corrugated steel panels but those pilings will laugh at that little loader. Anyone use one before know what it can do?

It should be able to take it down except for the pilings. You would probably be best to use a saw to cut those off.

they are pretty beefy. depending on how deep they are he could probably pull them out.

The bobcat can take out the siding easily but the 12 inch pilings would be best pulled up with a chain wrapped around them attached to the bobcat, provided you can get good traction there.

My brother used a bobcat to tear down an old mobile home without problems.

How deep are the pilings in the ground? Maybe should just dig them out. If he goes the chain route uh stand far far away. Could the chain whip into the cab?

The bobcat can pull out the pilings as long as it can get traction. Just remember, if you jerk the bobcat you can shatter a chain, and those little metal pieces hurt when they hit the back of your skull. I pulled out eight 8" diameter 48" deep pilings using my truck, which only weights about 8800 lbs. No reason you can't do it with a bobcat. Worse comes to worse, add some weight plates to the bobcat. 15000 lbs should do it. .

If that fails, call Monel.

i just had this wonderful image of somebody holding a bobcat by his hind-legs while he paws at a shed. not very effective, i imagine. you'd have more success leaving food in the shed and using a black bear. they are much more destructive then a bobcat. even cougars aren't very good at dismantling and destroying buildings and the such, but bears, thats the way to go.

Bobcat makes a variety of different sized loaders. He could tear down everything else, then use a chainsaw to cut the pilings down.
