I've been working in the hi-tech industry for the past 5 years and its time to change fields just to experience the difference. My former employers include AMD, Canon, Compaq & IBM in various finance and business analyst positions.

Since I am just starting my third year of college and intend to pursue my CA/CPA designation, I may as well try to apply to some accounting firms like Ernst & Young, KPMG etc who offers student positions..

Now my average is around 77% but i have tons of extracurricular and work experience, will that help?

Tell them you have a 2.0 GPA and love girls and beer
Than do a secrete frat handshake and show them your Stanfurd/Haaa-vad pin.

You are in.

Mind charting out your employment history really quick? That could either be a positive (if you worked as an analyst for Russell for six months then got promoted, quit after an additional six months, went to work as a programmer for fou ryears, etc) or a big negative.

Nevermind, I can't FVCKING read tonight.

Ok, so, anyways.

1) What sorts of extracurriculars do you have?
2) Are you pursuing accounting as a major?

if you have such a stacked resume you'll get into a tech audit group with no trouble

So it sounds like you have an interest in technology. Thought about pursuing a dual IT/acctg course in undergrad? IT auditors are in high demand right now and with your experience you'd stand out more than the average junior/senior.

I think your involvement at company-sponsored events definitely counts, no reason why it wouldn't.

My understanding is, yes, GPA does matter. What I was told is that once your GPA is above a 3.3, the Big 4 care more about personality and fit. Even if it's below a 3.3, you can still get a job if you have outstanding credentials, which, just from hearing your work experience, it sounds like you do.

for accounting internship, the higher gpa, the better.

77% is not even a B average, is it? B-, I guess. do you think you like accounting? accounting sucks, I totally hate it. I had worked in salomon smith barney accounting division for a summer, you have no idea how much I hated it. but it is always YMMV
