Ok, many people have told me that my CD collection is quite odd... (well over 400 CD's)

I have everything from Marvin Gay & 50's DO-WOP to Pantera & Slayer.. and everything in between.
Am I alone on this?..

no you're not alone. i love everything from andrea bocelli the italian opera singer, to jay z and almost everything in between. everything but country (i don't consider shania twain country) and that euro hardcare rave trash garbage. right now i'm revisiting my love for the jimmy eat world disc, but i can't find it anywhere :(

Nope -- 1,200+ CDs. Classical, swing jazz, Buddy Holly & Ink Spots, 70's hippies like CSNY, 80's punk, new wave, hard rock, metal, 90's mostly singer-songwriter types (Tori Amos, Peter Himmelmann, etc). Also lots of Celtic, and weird pseudo ancient music like Dead Can Dance.

Everything except rap, broadway and bubblegum.

my definition of strange conforms to the standards that are based upon the opposites of the conformist bands you see today and therefore is better than yours.

hmmm ... I got my death metal, black metal, doom metal, power metal, thrash metal, progressive metal, and stoner rock, as well as some classical music ... and some bands that mix classical music and metal (Haggard) ... my tastes are not as diverse ... but i really like what i like.

I used to think I had a varied and ecclectic collection. Then I met a friend who introduced me to world music and bought lots of that . And then I progressed to jazz and bought lots of that. Then I stumbled onto Dwight Yoakam, and thought maybe I could like country too, but that fell through. Although I think Dwight is great! Then my wife introduced me to Motown and Soul, which I missed entirely and bought lots of. It goes on. Like Dave Simmons post , I have some 1200 cd's.

Here are some names

Novalis (german prog rock from 70's)
Material Issue (90's power pop)
Ryuchi Sakamoto (some japanese synth dude)
Ars Nova (Japanese girl band aggressively redifining progressive rock)
Bill Frisell
Ten Years After
Screaming Trees

I've got the usual form Garth Brooks to Natalie Merchant. Classical, rap, heavy metal.

And I have a couple that are so weird I won't even tell anybody.
