how much money is the robot willing to drop on a losing campaign? after being wtfpwned by the McCain/Huckabee tag-team, his prospects are looking pretty bleak.

if he can outspend his competitors 10:1 and still lose, what hope does he have?

Not soon enough. All the money in the world can't change the fact that he's a wanna-be conservative.

Actually:
"All the money in the world can't change the fact that he's a wanna-be"

He comes across as such a fraud and a fake.

if Romney does stay in, what's his path to victory? even if he wins every state that he's competitive in -- would it be enough?

Nope, with Huckabee still in he hasn't got a chance of beating McCain in any state with a significant amount of delegates.

As someone who hates Clinton and Romney I'm loving it...

While its true that even Romney does not have enough money to buy enough votes, I still don't see him dropping out.

But as all the major candidates digest the results of ST, I suspect Romney's new strategy will be to go after Huckabee, because Huckabee is hurting him the worst with the religious right he needs to put himself over the top.

The key may be in what funding Huckabee can get as the smart money flees to McCain. As
other elements in the GOP start organizing various stop McCain movements and must come to Romney for viability.

So suppose Romney keeps going and he has say 30 or 40 or 45% of the delegates, what if all of his delegates want to go with Huckabee instead of McCain???

piasabird, the situation you speak of would be a brokered convention. Possible, though I don't see it as likely now. But who knows.

I don't get it. Romney is a perfect Republican. He's a successful business man. He's beautiful and every hair is in place. He's very articulate. His family is picture perfect. He's a religious nut case and was a governor of a large state. He would say or do anything to get elected.

Yup, he is the perfect Republican candidate, as phony as a three dollar bill, as shallow as a puddle, worships money, power, and ego. Why he's not winning is beyond me except maybe Bush made it temporarily go out of fashion.

His past haunts him, Moonbeam. You can't reverse your position on nearly every issue in a couple years' time and expect people to believe you.

I despise Romney, but McCain would be much, much worse. Ideally, neither would be the choice, but that would leave us Huckabee. No thanks.

Well I'm not so biased in favor of consistency as you are perhaps. I like to hope most folk change as they grow wiser. Even a flip flopper has got to be better than Bush who is consistently and persistently wrong.

But I can see nothing in Romney's candidacy except filling out his resume.

how soon till Romney drops out?

I imagine that he and his supporters are examining that right now.

I would guess that they are looking at polls, especially for those states whose primaries are coming up in a few days.

He's also committed to give a speech at the CPAC convention later this week. Might wanna gauge his support there.

While there's still a lot of voting left, if he can't start trending upward pretty soon I say he drops, maybe in 7-10 days ( I can't remember the dates of the two upcoming primary days that are very soon) after these 2 primaries.

The ONLY way right now sh*t romney can win nomination is either mccain dies/has major illness or something REALLY BAD comes out about mccain, like a youtube of him torturing cats.
Why he's not winning is beyond me except maybe Bush made it temporarily go out of fashion.
It must be. I agree with you, he's a poster child and yet nobody is buying.
I despise Romney, but McCain would be much, much worse.
Yet you're voting for Obama (?). Is that merely an F-U or you really think he's better? I have a feeling McCain, who could be worse, may get his ass handed to him in a debate against Hillary or Obama (either one would stand up very well, I feel).
I like to hope most folk change as they grow wiser.
Some do.

I had decided on Obama before McCain became inevitable, Skoorb.

It isn't just a FU to the establishment, or to McCain. It's a vote for change, and the guy I think will do it.

MSNBC reported last night that Romney had spent over $1 million for each of his delegates.

If we accept the 613 McCain numbers v. the 269 Romney numbers, it is difficult to see Romney getting to the 1191 delegates to win the nomination with the primary process basically at least half over.

But Romney will get drafted in any number of stop McCain scenario's. We can only wait and wonder to see the next Romney move.

And also wonder if the GOP will kiss the old frog and turn McCain into a handsome prince.
McCain eagerly awaits lips a puckered but sleeping beauty has yet to awake because GWB
really spiked the apple with extra strength sleeping pills.

He ain't puckered yet.

If he''s gonna do that, it'll be at the CPAC meeting later this week (IIRC).

Many are waiting to see if that's what he's gonna do there. In the past, he's blown 'em off and not attended.

why does it matter
if McCain is on track to win the nomination, then it doesn't matter what Romney and Huckabee do
