Moving into a new apartment and the one I am considering is a 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom 617 square foot apartment. My friend says that is pretty small. How small are we talking?

I'm in a 2BR that is 850 Sq. Ft.

And don't listen to JLGatsby, he's an idiot.

617 is a bit small. It depends on how much stuff you have.

Go take a look at it. 617 sounds pretty normal, but the layout of the rooms makes a big difference for how big it feels.

Rent will be around 1100/month too, stupid south florida real estate prices.

I think that's about how big mine is. I'll have to measure tonight and see.

It's small but very livable.

haha

you need to move up more to the mid tampa/sarasota area

1100 a month would get you a nice 2bed 1500sq apartment

Me = Pwned

Its my first place and I will be living alone, is it too small?
"Too small" is a relative term. If you're just getting out on your own, you will enjoy it just as much as a mansion. You're not gonna have room for those major "Group Gropes" and 60" screen you've read about, but you'll have room for yourself and an overnight friend.

My freshman year in college, I was in a triple in an 11x10' room.

When I moved into a single, it was glorious. It was only 8x9', but it was wonderful.

My GF and I live in a 1 bed 1 bathroom apt, and it is a little more than 700 sq ft. Plenty of space.

617sqft

assume a standard 12x12 bedroom = 144sqft
bathroom is about 8x5 = 40sqft
kitchen for a 1 bdrm is about 8x7 = 56sqft
eating area is usually 9x9 = 81sqft

therefore living area is the rest = 296sqft
that's roughly 17x17

That's not a bad size appt.

fine for one person

that would be too small for two or more persons, unless maybe it was a married couple, i guess that could work

My garage is larger than that! :p

I'd say that's fine for one person. I dunno. I live in a place that's 1500 and it seems small.
