How small does average text look on the 2405?

Hey guys,

I was curious, for those of you who own the 2405, or another 24" monitor, do text and graphics tend to appear small? I saw the Gateway 21" first hand at Costco the other day, and while the picture quality was outstanding, the text seemed a bit small for my tastes. Of course, I am one of those people who likes to use 1024x768 on my 19" CRT. I know the Dell is 3" larger than the Gateway, but the resolution is higher as well. So did it take you a while to get used to the smaller text? Or is it not a big deal? I wish I could see the Dell in person, but I have never seen it for sale at Costco even though it is available on Costco's website. What do you guys think?
 
IMO, native resolution on most LCDs is pretty small, the exception being 19" LCDs. You should see my Dell laptop -- 1920x1200 in a 17" WS! Now that is small!!

So if you like to run 1024x768 on a 19" CRT, I think you will find a 19" LCD running at the native 1280x1024 your best bet. Or you could scale the resolution down on any LCD, but then you lose one of the biggest benefits-clarity.
 
The 2405W should have a similar DPI as a 19in CRT running at 1280x1024(or 960) or a 17in CRT running at 1024x768. I'm running 1920x1200 on my FW-900 the viewable area is 22.5in and the text size it still quite tolerable. So adding another 1.5in could only make things a little bigger and better.

Small for a dell laptop is 1920x1200 on the 15.4" WS.


I think some of the Dell mall kiosks have the 24" on display. My guess is that if you get the 24", you would want to change the dpi in Windows up from 96 to 120.

Native res for the 2405 is 1920x1200. If you force it to anythg else it will look like crap. I run mine native and adjusted my fonts and icons through windows and it still looks great.

YMMV depending on your preference/taste.
 
On most systems I set the DPI to 100 I thought 96 looked fine on the 2405 since the screen is so big anyways. Text size should look very close to what a 19" LCD's looks like.
