How similar are the Total War games to Lords of the Realm?

They seem to be somewhat similar upon looking up Total War. Lords of the Realm 2 is one of my all-time favourite PC games, and I still load it up at least once a year to get a good World campaign going.

Does Rome Total War (or other ones) give off a similar feel for economic management, battles, army building, etc? Worth purchasing?

not even close

LotR2 had a better economic/building aspect to it

but Total War was all about the instanced battle and economy/building was just a afterthought or extreme annoyance.

I enjoyed them both though extremely

Total War is fun, but it isn't very comparable. You'll notice a lot of differences.

Slaughter these villagers? Yes.

EDIT: WTF? I just realized there was a Lords of the Realm 3. I'll have to get that.
