I've seen cats pick up their kittens by putting their mouths around the kitten's neck. You should do the same.

How far is the travel? Safest way would be in a cage or box. I've had a kitten jump on the dash while driving.

Yeah you really don't want it going under the gas or brake pedals.

Where is the cat now? Are you adopting a new-to-you animal? If so, the agency should give you a box to take her home in. If not, get a carrier that is big enough to allow for future growth and place something familiar of yours into the cage.

When I transport my cat, she goes into a rage when she goes in the carrier, but if I put a shirt I haven't washed yet in with her, she's the calmest cat I've ever seen.

i rescued a cat once from my evil aunt. damn cat ran under the brake pedal lol. i got stopped eventually, got out and found a cardboard box behind a store. kitty came home in a bud case

We transported a young cat (not kitten) home in a van once, and it managed to climb up into the dash. Had to pull the radio and ducting out to get it out.

In a real cat carrier. It is much safer than just having it running around the car and risking the chance of it getting loose everytime you stop and get out of the car. Also it is much safer for the cat if you have an accident.

Definitely a cat carrier. Since it's only an hour trip, a tiny one will do. As said above, you don't want her getting scared and running under the pedals.

my cat whined a lot the first time.
he's a pro-rider now, but getting him INTO the cat carrier is a whole different story.

So... cats apparently hate being in cars, but dogs love it?

My dogs love to ride with us in the car. I don't mind our chihuahua getting in our lap while we drive either... It isn't that big of a problem...

Easiest way is to put the kennel on its end and drop them in. It's still not easy but it works better than having it on its side as most people do it.

My cat is a huge whiner, BTW. Even just driving her to a friend's place one mile away is an ordeal. She complains like no cat I've ever heard.

putting them in butt first also helps, in my experience.
