Ok so my future brother-in-law graduated and moved into my condo for the time being while looking for a job. Here is my problem, his constantly downloading and hogged my internet line :( :|. I dont mind him living of me cause I know how it is while without a job. But hogging my interweb all da time is not cool at all. How should I go about this? I dont want to be a ass or being viewed as one but I would like to have my cable access back :(. Some reasons given to us was that his constantly looking for jobs on the interweb so he need to be online all da damn time.

I'm not sure how you can do this but I'm pretty sure it can be done - just limit his bandwidth.. Or.. Him... Install netnanny on his computer :)

his on my microsoft wireless router and using my wireless PCMCIA card eventhough he has one in his suitcase :(. Should I be mean and limit his connection by shutting down the network? :p.

Don't be mean.. He's probably just looking for a job.. Just set limits.. Go on, it's less mean than shutting it down completely.. Or you can be a total passive-agressive not job and disonnect him and tell him that your network is down..

Just throttle his usage if your router supports it.

Or figure out what/where he's downloading from and block those sites.

OhhhhhHhhhhhHHHHHhh.. OK... Well, if he was your sister's man I'd say you shouldn't be too rude.. Since he's your gf's younger brother I say be polite to a point and then just level with him.. If you can't ask you gf to talk to him..

Just ask?

I'm sure he understands what bandwidth is. Just explain to him you'd like to download too, and limit himself. If he can't, then get a program to do it for him.

Edited for missed comma.

You don't need to block his ports, just find a bandwidth limiting program.

Tell him to go get fvcked. If he wants a webcam, he can buy it himself when he gets a job. You're being more than generous by letting him stay with you. I'd tell him to lay off whatever he's doing that is chewing up bandwidth and concentrate on looking for a job. If he acts like a tool, then either get a bandwidth throttler or a router and lock his machine down until he grows up and realizes its not all fun and games.
