Currently I have two drives, a burner and dvd-rom on one ide channel. And a hard drive on another ide channel alone.

I've been having problems burning cds in nero and win98se. "IDE/SCSI" "Power Calibration" "ATAPI timeout" problems.
Is this because of my current IDE setup?

Currently,
HDD > IDE1
BURNER > DVD > IDE2

What is the rule of thumb when sharing IDE channels?

Should it be?
DVD > HDD > IDE1
BURNER > IDE2

I would kee pth e HDD on its own channel..place the cdrw and dvd on the other channel..most would recommend cdrw as master and dvd as slave..but you can run it the other way too..dvd-master, cdrw as slave..

Now the error message maybe be a cdr media problem..can you try anotherr brand..

I recommend the fujifilm cdr..they are high quality media....

also make sure if your cdrw and dvd drive support dma that this set to on...
