How should I dispose of this paint?

Supposedly the garbage men won't take paint cans with paint in them so I don't know how to dispose of them. Should I just dump them somewhere or are they toxic? I have about five cans of old paint I don't know what to do with. What do you suggest?

Do not dump them, they are toxic. That's why the garbage man won't take them.

Unfortunately, I can't really help you with where to get rid of them... It shouldn't be too hard to find some information on google, or in your local yellow pages.

Is it waterbased latex paint? or oil based paint?

Either way you cannot trash them. Most cities have a paint recycling day where you can drop off and pick up paint.

Do you have a garage? Might be time to paint it :) (with several coats)

I got all kinds, latex-based, oil-based, water-repellant, stains. Some have a little in them some have about a half-bucket. Should I just leave the lids open and let it dry up?

You should contact your local county hazardous waste disposal department to find out what is acceptable in your area. Some areas will allow you to mix sawdust or cat litter with latex-based paint to speed up the drying process; other areas require you to let the paint dry on its own.

Dumping paint is probably illegal just about anywhere, as the paint can infiltrate into and contaminate water supplies.

I used to be a painting contractor so this is an easy one, get some card board and just pour it out on the board and let it dry, then the trash men will take it.

drink it!

Seriously, let it dry on its own (make sure you puncture the skin occasionally to ensure it dries all the way through).
