What is Defcon 13, and why should you be paid to attend?

Oh, n/m I googled it. You want your boss to pay for you to attend a hacking convention? Only if you work for a tech company/Computer magazine, can I see that happening.

Hmm. I do work for a computing/networking company. Mebbe I should take a business trip to defcon.

Tell her/him/it that you're doing undercover work, and the best way to prevent an attack or infiltration is to know the enemy's tatics. Crap like that.

I work for corporate IT. The speakers at the conference discuss alot of cutting edge issues. Its not 100% about hacking.

I told them that I was very interested in going to the Blackhat briefings. I work in the security field for a HUGE company -- So I told them by us not visiting Blackhat/defcon we are opening ourselves up to the next "hacks" and it would be beneficial for us to be represented there. They kinda wavered a little and I told them.. "If you dont send me, I am going to need those days off for training, because I will pay myself. I think we really need to be attending those confs" he said "Go ahead and submit for it then, we will see what the director says"

one week later, I had my approval. :D

Maybe I should pitch as a computer security and emerging technology conferance instead of a "hacker convention"

Sounds very good, but I would emphasize that IT Security is part of your personal career track/learning goals.. That is if you havent already sent it.. If you have, then if they call you in to discuss, hit that as a point.

If you do get to go, I will give ya an I-hacked T-shirt! :p

no I haven't recieved the "read reciept" yet either.

However I did pick a good time to ask as she just sent me good praise on the requirements document I drafted up last week.

It would be kind of ambiguous to just say Nevada. And a sh1tload of conventions are held in LV so it's not like he picked intentionally picked LV and chose a random convention

yeah, the location of this would not be the deciding factor for if I can attend.

Anyways, i got the email read reciept 40 minutes ago. That doesnt mean much though as she gets about 200 emails an hour.
