How sharp should a 19" CRT be?

Recently I bought a Viewsonic P95F+B 19" CRT. From all the reviews I read about it, it was supposed to have superior visual quality. I'm not really seeing this with mine, but I am wondering if I am expecting too much out of it.

When I bought it, I noticed a very slightly blurry section in the screen. This is not something that is very noticable, but it is there regardless. I could have taken the monitor right back to the store, but I knew that a week later I would be buying a 9700 Pro so I decided to wait and see if it was still there with the new card. It was, but after the week, the store I bought the monitor from would not do a return so I had to go through Viewsonic's customer service. I explained the problem and they got me to send the monitor to a local service shop of theirs. I got it back in a couple days and the problem was still there. I tried to let it go, seeing as how they had supposedly fixed it, maybe I was just being too picky. After another week or so, I decided I wasn't going to put up with it as I just spent a fair bit of money on it so I called again. This time I had to send the monitor to Ontario and I was without it for a couple weeks. I finally got it back and the blurriness is still there.

So am I just being too picky? Are 19" monitors just normally not as sharp as 17" monitors? I run the 19" at 1280x1024/32bit color/100Hz and the 17" at 1024x768/32bit color/85Hz. This is being run on a P4 1.6@2.4 with a Radeon 9700 Pro while running WinXP Pro with SP1. I am currently running both monitors side by side and the 17" is quite noticably sharper than the 19". The 17" is a Dell 1028L that is several years old. I have tried pretty much well ever type of setting adjustment I can find with the monitor. Both in Windows and physically on the monitor itself.

have you checked for environmental interference? check for nearby subwoofers, and other unshielded stuff...it's kind of a long shot, but try putting the moniter somewhere else, and see if the spot is still there...
 
😱 Size should not matter regarding sharpness and image quality. Rad9700PRO and 85Hz refresh rate should certainly be enough to rule those out so it wouls seem to be a slight physical prob with the monitor itself. If anything a 19" should be better than a 17" as the 17" are rapidly becoming entry level and the pressure is really on co's to produce them as cheap as possible, the same isn't true for 19" monitors. I know it's a silly suggestion but have you tried cleaning the screen with glass cleaner or a screen wipe? Other than that I'd demand a replacement either from the retailer or the manu as this is NOT what you paid your money for and is NOT what other Viewsonic users report.
 
When I first looked at monitors the corners were the blurry areas that I saw on the cheap ones. I bough a Mag which is cheap but the picture is good.
