How sensitive is CAT 5e cable?

I was pulling this stuff through my house and people are telling me "DON'T BEND IT!" and other stuff. I did use the crown staples (the tops are rounded so cabling fits in it) to secure it to walls and joists, etc.

So, how sensitive is the cable itself? I wasn't abusive with it, but wasn't extremely careful with it. Should I test all of the connections before sheetrocking or is the stuff pretty resilient?

I would test it first, not because it's particularly fragile, but it's a pain in the ass to deal with once you've put the sheetrock up.

Reminds me of the ethernet cable that I had that I just slightly bent it and it died. This stuff isn't very resilient if it isn't flex cable.

I wouldnt really worry about it. Sure you want to test it when installed like any other wire though. But in my experience there was nothing particularly fragile about Cat5e compared to other wires I've worked with. Could also depend on the quality of wire you buy, I don't try saving a few pennies by buying the cheap sh!t.

cat5e is pretty good when it comes to bends and yanking. You can abuse cat5e a lot before it has issues. They were probably thinking cat6 when they said don't bend it. Cat 6 is a PITA to run.

Odd...the stuff I have is decent grade. It was a pain in the butt just to cut through it. However, I have cable that I keep bundled up in my backpack and use on business trips. It gets abused but works just fine...

Nothing to worry about in my experience...one i'm using now is kinked/outer is torn in places and it works fine...

maybe Cat6 is fragile. but Cat5e? i have this one cable that comes out of the bottom windows of the house, back through the top balcony into a room and through a wall to reach my room and it works fine.

My cable is brand name and was $100+ for a 1000 foot box. I didn't opt for the cheap crap.

What about my decision to staple it? Like I said, I used the crown staples with a rounded top. It does make a VERY secure connection, but the cable doesn't look smashed.
